SELF-CARE ISN’T SELFISH, IF ANYTHING IT SHOULD BE SEEN AS SELF-PRESERVATION

Updated: Jul 17, 2020

What does self-care look like to you? It doesn’t have to be something big, there are lots of small, easy things you could add into your day, maybe you even do some of these and don’t see them as self-care?

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You could drink more water. Couldn’t we all, but actually it really does help! Water is something I love, not just drinking it but baths, swimming and to be by the sea.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You could take some deep breaths. Proper deep in through the nose, out through the nose or mouth breaths dependent on what’s comfortable. Just ensure the out breath is longer than the in.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You could start a gratitude list. Writing down or saying out loud, at the end of each day, 3 things you are grateful for.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You could think of and write down some positive affirmations. Then say them out loud to yourself everyday.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You could set a timer for five or ten minutes and do some organising or a tidy up. Clearing your space helps to clear your head.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

You could do some stretches or a bit of movement. It doesn’t have to be a full on yoga class, just something perhaps when you wake up or go to bed.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There are lots more things you could do but whatever you do, do it because you want to and it helps you and just know it isn’t selfish.

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I definitely learnt this the hard way and now have to practice self-care regularly. It’s a challenge to start with, but even a couple of minutes in your day to just stop and breathe can work wonders and help to bring you some sense of calm.
